Local Rides

Fancy Visiting North Yorkshire ?

This is only the tip of the iceberg.  If you are planning on visiting the area, tell me where you are based and when and I will try and suggest some routes local to you. Most routes can be ridden all year, however the singletrack in the woods can get very wet and the more exposed routes very cold - you have been warned!

  • Dalby Forest - Just about on my doorstep, some excellent forest riding, when its dry. Four easy to follow marked routes set up by Pace and the Forestry Commission, good single speed terrain, challenging climbs with fast singletrack.
  • Rudland Rigg - A huge area stretching from Kirkbymoorside right over to Middlesbrough. Mostly open moorland with stone drovers tracks if you need to get back quick, loads of variations and some amazing scenery.
  • Fylingdales Moor - Some long routes that go from "Fartbeat Country" right over to the coast of Whitby. You can take in some good singletrack across Wheeldale Moor when its dry.
  • Sutton Bank - A few good routes start from Sutton Bank Visitor Centre car park, most run along the ridge and drop into Boltby forest or over the other side and into Hawnby.
  • Cropton Forest - Trailquest country, a permanent route is available from the Forestry Commission and also has some good fire tracks if you want to blast round.
  • Chop Gate - The bit between Rudland Rigg and Carlton Bank, a mix of moorland and forest singletrack with a 3 mile climb up Ingleby Greenhow just to test you.
  • Rosedale - Another good valley to ride round, there's always the old railway to follow if you want to take it easy. If not, I challenge you to climb Chimney Bank on a single speed.
  • Carlton Bank - A good downhill course for those so inclined, I guess I'm getting too old for that sort of thing - Leave your brain at the top!
  • Great Ayton - An excellent jump spot, can take a bit of finding that's how the locals like it so show some respect if you go up.
